It seems that lately everyone you meet has a ghost in their home or their office or their granny’s home. You get the picture. The problem is that too many people see horror movies and shows like Supernatural as how-to videos…which they obviously are not. It is important to realize that there is a difference between certain kinds of spirits. Not all of them are poltergeists and not all that intend to do you harm are poltergeists either. It is also important to know that not all spirits have a malevolent intention. Some of them are just hanging about or possible they are there to keep an eye on you and protect you.
With that being said, it is important to know what you should definitely not be doing if you suspect that there is a ghost in your house. I mean I am sure that it is pretty obvious to most people that a shotgun filled with rock salt is an unnecessary solution to just about any problem…but you never know.
Do not panic
Most entities feed off of energy to keep “alive”. Negative energy releases at a higher capacity than with any other emotion. This means that an entity will prefer to feed off of negative energy. If you panic, you are releasing negative energy and only making whatever is in your home stronger. Freaking out about it also doesn’t make the situation any easier and you will most likely just put yourself on edge about everything and anything. It will essentially make the entire experience a lot more terrifying for you. It also serves absolutely no purpose in resolving the situation. “I had a panic attack and suddenly everything worked out fine.” This is not something you will ever hear anyone in the entire world say because this is not how it works. If you are frightened, leave the house for a short while as you gather your thoughts and maybe come back with a friend. To sit there and panic about it will only make you jumpy, and you will likely be more afraid than what is necessary.
Do not get angry
Can you imagine the amount of energy released from your body when you lose your temper? It will be a feast fit for the queen of the afterlife. Keep in mind that more often than not the entity you are dealing with will have been a person once. This means that they will behave like a person when confronted with anger. They will retaliate. The only difference is that this time they have no consequences to their actions. It could, however be an entity that was not a person before and therefore can behave entirely unpredictably when confronted with anger. You will not know what exactly you are dealing with so it is best you deal with it in a calm manner. Remember, you cannot harm this entity, it is untouchable.
Do not ignore it
More often than not the paranormal activity in your home is caused by something that is trying to get your attention. Therefore, it is only normal that if you ignore it the activity will only increase as it tries harder to get your attention. Should you acknowledge the existence of the entity, it might mean that the activity will be less frequent. Other than that, if you ignore it you run the risk of possibly missing something really cool happening around you.
No Invitations
No matter how well you might think you know this entity, do not invite it to stay in your home. Often the more malevolent spirits will put on a charade to win your heart. You might think you are inviting a 9 year old little girl with no friends to stay in your home, only to later discover that it was really a 3 meter tall demonic entity from the 1700’s and he is here to take your soul and your cat. An entity that is merely trespassing is a lot easier to get rid of. Once it is invited to stay it is unlikely to ever leave. This might end in the entity taking ownership of your home when you get too sick and tired of it and move out. It is also imperative to note that yelling something dramatic like “COME AND GET ME!” or “IF YOU ARE HERE, WHY DON’T YOU HIT ME?” can also be a really stupid thing to do. You are handing weapons to a terrorist.
Do not spend money
There will reach a point where you consider getting a paranormal group of some kind to come and investigate the occurrences at your home. Be very weary of groups that ask for money in exchange for their services. They are exploiting your fears and it is wrong. Somewhere there will be paranormal enthusiasts that are willing to do it for their research at no cost. Those are the guys you want. If you pay a group they are going to feel obliged to find paranormal activity in your home and there is always a chance that there is nothing paranormal about it. These groups will not tell you that. They will insist on finding something in your home and then they will make sure it is enough that is requires a second consultation. This can cause more harm to your sense of security than good.
There are many more things you should avoid when dealing with ghosts, these are just the most common among the haunted. The most important piece of advice I can give you is to first make sure that your home is in fact truly and very definitely haunted before taking any action at all. The only way to do this is to use the scientific method and rule out any other possibilities.
